A mouthguard is a protective device usually worn on the upper jaw. It is worn when there is a risk of facial contact such as in contact sports like football, hockey and basketball.
A well-fitted mouthguard can protect against cut lips, gums or cheeks; injuries to the tongue; and chipped, broken or knocked out teeth. Considering the cost and trauma of a mouth injury a custom-fitted mouthguard is good insurance.
